Report: The Brazilian Space Agency: The bridge to the future (AEB)

Synopsis

The document provides an overview of the Brazilian Space Agency (AEB) and its various projects and initiatives. The AEB, established on February 10, 1994, is responsible for coordinating and executing the Brazilian Space Policy. It is part of the National System for the Development of Space Activities (SINDAE) and works to promote the well-being of society through the employment of the space sector.

The National Policy for the Development of Space Activities (PNDAE) establishes objectives and guidelines for national programs and projects related to space. The National Space Activities Program (PNAE) serves as its main planning instrument.

Brazil has two launch centers: the Alcântara Launch Center (CLA) and the Barreira do Inferno Launch Center (CLBI). The CLA is larger and is where Brazil plans to concentrate orbital and deep space launches.

The Amazonia 1 Satellite is Brazil’s first Earth observation satellite, designed, integrated, tested, and operated entirely by the country. Launched on January 28, 2021, it generates images of the planet every five days.

The Technological Safeguards Agreement (TSA) between Brazil and the United States was signed in 2019. It involves the exploration of the Alcântara space base for space activities by US companies and the protections they will have in the development of local actions, such as launching rockets and satellites.

Other initiatives include the Catarina Satellite Constellation, nanosatellites, the Microsatellite Launch Vehicle (VLM), and various educational programs such as the AEB Escola Program and the Augusto Severo Space Technological Vocation Center CVT-Espacial.
