Nestled in the vast wilderness of Russia’s Far East, a new spaceport has emerged as a symbol of the country’s cosmic ambitions. The Vostochny Cosmodrome, situated in the Amur Oblast, is poised to become Russia’s primary launch site, reducing its dependence on the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
The construction of the Vostochny Cosmodrome began in 2011, with the aim of providing Russia with an independent access to space. The spaceport spans an area of over 700 square kilometers and consists of more than 80 structures, including launch pads, command centers, and processing facilities.
