NVS-03 Will Extend India’s Next-Generation Navigation Satellite Series

India’s NVS-03 satellite is planned to launch aboard GSLV-F18 from the Second Launch Pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. ISRO’s mission description, published October 28, identifies the spacecraft as the third satellite in its next-generation navigation series.

The mission will place NVS-03 into geosynchronous transfer orbit. It will be the 20th flight of India’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle.

NVS-03 carries an Indian-developed atomic clock alongside procured atomic clocks. The spacecraft also includes an L1 navigation signal in addition to the existing L5 and S-band signals. These additions form part of the next-generation system intended to maintain continuity of India’s regional navigation services.

ISRO describes the system’s service area as India and a surrounding region extending approximately 1,500 kilometers beyond the country’s boundary. The mission concerns regional navigation coverage, rather than a worldwide satellite navigation constellation.

The published mission page describes launch preparations and the intended spacecraft capabilities. It does not announce a completed launch or specify a liftoff time.
