Introduction to ESA’s Nebula Public Library

What is Nebula?

Nebula is an online library and database that provides access to summaries and final reports from ESA’s past and current research and development projects, especially those funded under the Discovery and Preparation programme.

The goals of Nebula are:

  • To allow industry, academia, and the general public to easily access this research
  • To prevent needless repetition of work by enabling users to build on previous discoveries

Key Features

The Nebula library has the following features:

  • Powerful search and filtering tools (date, country, keywords, etc.)
  • User-friendly visual interface with a studies timeline
  • Ability to export data for further analysis
  • Information made freely available to all users

The site was designed for exploring past space research and leveraging that knowledge for new innovations.

Importance of Nebula

Nebula serves the important function of centralizing and preserving ESA’s substantial R&D efforts. With the considerable time and funding invested in these studies, it is vital that others can benefit from and expand on the results. By avoiding duplication and enabling further advancement, Nebula maximizes the return on investment into space science progress.
