Lucy — launch
Date in UTC
Lucy is a NASA mission launched on October 16, 2021 to investigate asteroids, including Jupiter’s Trojan populations. These bodies share Jupiter’s orbital path around the Sun and preserve evidence relevant to the early Solar System. The spacecraft uses repeated gravitational assists and a sequence of flybys to examine multiple targets. Its instruments measure surface properties, geology and other characteristics to compare the bodies it encounters.
