Shenzhou is a spacecraft developed and operated by China to support its crewed spaceflight program.
China signed a deal with Russia in 1995 for the transfer of Soyuz technology, including life support and docking systems. While Shenzhou’s design is based on the Russian Soyuz spacecraft, it is larger in size and uses new materials. The first launch was on 19 November 1999 and the first crewed launch was on 15 October 2003.
