The European Space Agency’s grid-resilience funding call supports proof-of-concept studies and pilot services combining satellite capabilities with electricity-transmission operations. Developed with ENTSO-E, the European network of transmission-system operators, it offers co-funding of 50–80% of activity costs, depending on company status and national approval.
The first theme addresses environmental hazards, infrastructure monitoring, space-weather information, and damage assessment. Applications close January 29, 2027. ESA’s page lists November 2, 2026, as the opening date in its header and timetable, but November 4 in the accompanying text.
A second theme runs from February 1 through April 30, 2027. It covers positioning, timing, interference detection, and satellite communications during outages.
Eligible locations include the United Kingdom, Norway, Switzerland, Canada, and participating European countries. Full proposals require written national-delegation authorization. ESA evaluates submissions individually on a rolling basis.
The call targets commercially oriented services with user participation. Transmission operators may help validate selected projects; their involvement in defining the call does not constitute a purchasing commitment.
