NASA Plans to Release ROSES-27 by January 2027

NASA plans to release its ROSES-27 research solicitation no later than January 2027. The agency’s October 20 announcement anticipates approximately 50 program elements covering astrophysics, biological and physical sciences, Earth science, heliophysics, lunar science, planetary science, and interdisciplinary research.

ROSES, short for Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences, groups research opportunities under a common solicitation. Its program elements specify the subjects NASA wants investigators to address. The announced release window gives research teams a planning date; the published solicitation provides the requirements governing individual proposals.

NASA’s research solicitation guidance explains that a NASA Research Announcement identifies areas of research interest and selects proposals through scientific or peer review. A research opportunity is an invitation to compete for support. The announcement of ROSES-27 establishes neither individual award recipients nor a completed funding decision.

The upcoming solicitation also has a separate timetable from opportunities that remain open under ROSES-25. NASA’s October notice identifies deadlines extending into early 2027, including a January 15 proposal deadline for Geosphere research. Heliophysics Low Cost Access to Space has a November 20, 2026, first-step deadline and a March 16, 2027, second-step deadline.

These separate stages affect when a team must enter a competition. A later full-proposal deadline does not replace a required earlier submission. The applicable program document determines whether an opportunity requires a notice of intent, a first-step proposal, or another preliminary action.

NASA maintains solicitation information through its research funding resources, including links to NSPIRES and amendment notices. For ROSES-27, the next documented milestone is publication of the solicitation by January 2027, when investigators can match their proposed work to the final program descriptions and submission requirements.
